Gender-Affirming Medicine & Sexual Health Clinic (GeMS)
San Ysidro Health’s Gender-Affirming Medicine & Sexual Health Clinic (GeMS) creates a safe, confidential, and inclusive space for our LGBTQ patients and families. Everyone has the right to be who they are. We are guided by the belief that people come first, and we partner with you to make decisions about your health care needs.
GeMS medical providers and staff are experienced in providing specialty care in sexual health. The clinic also provides birth control options and an HIV prevention medication known as PrEP, short for pre-exposure prophylaxis as well as PEP, short for post-exposure prophylaxis.

- LGBTQ-focused primary care
- Transgender health services including hormone therapy
- Sexual health services
- Contraception
- HIV counseling and testing
- HIV prevention counseling, including PrEP and PEP
- Linkage to psychiatry and psychology providers with experience in LGBTQ+ care
The GeMS clinic expands on services San Ysidro Health offers across the county. Founded 50 years ago, the nonprofit serves more than 100,000 patients through an extensive network of healthcare facilities across the county, including HIV centers, dental clinics and nutrition centers.
The GeMS Health clinic is part of a multi-faceted effort to ensure all San Ysidro Health organizational sites and departments are welcoming to LGBTQ patients and can provide appropriate care and support.
